Federer is part of the US Open semi-final with Djokovic
US Open Organizing Committee announced the results of branch draw on August 22.
In the match, Roger Federer will meet a player who qualifies, while Novak Djokovic encounters rival Roberto Carballes Baena. Without surprise, Djokovic will rematch Daniil Medvedev, and Federer meets Kei Nishikori in the quarterfinals.
Medvedev beat Djokovic twice in 2019, including a victory at the Cincinnati Masters last week – the tournament that the Russian player won. The world number five player can meet Taylor Fritz in the third round and Fabio Fognini in the fourth round.
On the journey to the quarterfinals, the biggest obstacle to Djokovic could be Stan Wawrinka’s 23rd seed in the fourth round. Wawrinka could have previously met Kevin Anderson in the third round. Swiss player had beaten Djokovic in 2016 to win the only US Open title.
The last Grand Slam tournament of the year will start from August 26.
In addition to Nishikori, Federer’s quarterfinal branch features seeds like Lucas Pouille, Guido Pella or David Goffin. These are all good backyard players, and can make it difficult for “Express trains”.
Rafael Nadal can meet difficult at round 1, when he touches John Millman – who took Federer in the US Open last year. In the third round, the Spanish player may meet his charming compatriot Fernando Verdasco. Opponents in Round 4 could be Marin Cilic No. 22 seed, No. 14 seed John Isner or expected “equine” players like Jan-Lennard Struff or Filip Krajinovic.
Nadal is with the quarter-final branch with sixth seed Alexander Zverev and the same semi-final branch with the fourth seed Dominic Thiem. Last year, Thiem won Nadal 6-0 in the first set but still lost after five sets in the quarterfinals.
The US Open 2019 is the largest prize pool in tennis history. The champion of the application received a total of $ 3.85 million, the runner-up received $ 1.9 million, while the first-place player received $ 58,000.
